From Hidden to Highlighted: How God Positions You for Impact!

Conference

Did you know there was a time I completely went off the grid? YES! The truth is, sometimes life gets overwhelming. We find ourselves in the greatest battles and the most unkind situations, but we take them in stride and ask God for His grace. At the time, I didn’t realize that what felt like isolation was actually preparation.

I have come to understand that sometimes the secret place isn’t just to cover you—it’s to protect you. The Word tells us about the fowler’s snare, the pestilence by night, and the arrows that fly by day (Psalm 91:3-6). Unfortunately, we encounter these very real spiritual attacks in our daily lives. But as Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Looking back, I can see how the hidden seasons of my life were divinely orchestrated. There were times when I wanted to be seen, to be recognized, to be understood, but God had me in a place of solitude. What I once thought was rejection was God’s redirection. He wasn’t keeping me from something; He was preparing me for something.

The Hidden Season is Necessary

It’s easy to feel frustrated when you’re in a season of waiting. You see others moving forward, receiving opportunities, launching businesses, growing in ministry—meanwhile, you feel stagnant. But what if I told you that your hidden season is not a punishment but a process? Look at David: before he became king, he was a shepherd, tending to sheep in the fields. Nobody saw him, but God was watching.

When Samuel came to anoint the next king of Israel, Jesse brought out all his sons—except David. He wasn’t even considered. Yet, the anointing found him. (1 Samuel 16:11-13) Sometimes, the world may overlook you, but when God has chosen you, no one can ignore what He is doing in your life.

Let's Take A Sip with Akeelia Thompson

Being Hidden Prepares You for the Spotlight

The secret place isn’t just about isolation—it’s about transformation. God uses this time to shape our character, refine our gifts, and deepen our faith. If we skip this process, we risk stepping into a position we’re not yet ready for. Imagine if Joseph had gone straight from being his father’s favorite son to being the second-in-command in Egypt? He wouldn’t have had the endurance or wisdom to handle the responsibility.

His journey—from the pit to Potiphar’s house, from prison to the palace—was all preparation. What the enemy meant for evil, God turned for good. (Genesis 50:20) The same is true for us. That job rejection, that broken relationship, that delay—it’s all working together to position us for greater impact.

What to Do in the Hidden Season

  1. Strengthen Your Relationship with God

    • This is the time to go deeper in prayer, fasting, and studying the Word. “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8)

  2. Work on Your Craft

    • If you’re called to preach, study the Word like never before. If you’re a writer, write even when no one is reading. If you’re a leader, learn and develop your skills in the background. Your gift will make room for you in due season. (Proverbs 18:16)

  3. Build Integrity and Character

    • God will never elevate you beyond the level of your character. Use this time to let God refine your heart, remove pride and build resilience.

  4. Be Faithful in Small Things

    • Before David was king, he was a faithful shepherd. Before Elisha received Elijah’s mantle, he was serving him. Be diligent in whatever God has placed in front of you. “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” (Luke 16:10)

The Shift from Hidden to Highlighted

One thing I’ve learned is that when God is ready to reveal you, nothing can stop it. Just as Joseph was remembered in the right season, just as Esther was placed in the palace “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14) and just as David was anointed king at the appointed time—God has a set time for your elevation.

I feel like I am in a season where God is positioning me for greater impact. Mind you, it was a rocky road to get here, but there comes a time when you have to answer the call. God does not bring you out of hiding for you to remain silent.

So, if you’re in a waiting season right now, stay faithful. The time will come when God will bring you out and when He does, it will be undeniable. Until then, embrace the hidden place, knowing that God is working behind the scenes to highlight you for His glory.

Grace

Final Encouragement

Remember, nothing changes until you do. The experiences and opportunities did not come to me until I put in the work. People did not recommend me until they saw my consistency. Purpose is based on God’s divine plan for us, but as I was listening to Apostle Joshua Selman recently, he shared something profound: both God and Satan agree on this one thing—laziness cannot work in their kingdom.

Your hidden season is not in vain. When God speaks, every other voice becomes mere noise. Stay faithful, stay prepared and when the time comes, step into the calling He has been preparing you for all along.

Let’s connect and unlock purpose together!
